Express Entry — Canada’s flagship fast-track to permanent residency

Express Entry is IRCC’s points-based selection system for the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades (FST), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) programs. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score — built from age, education, language, and work experience — determines whether you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

Leiter Rahme’s attorneys help you maximize your CRS score, identify the right stream, coordinate IELTS/TEF results, and position your application for the highest-probability draw round. We’ve guided clients through every major IRCC policy shift since 1991.

“My CRS score was 492 — just below the last draw cutoff. Leiter Rahme identified a provincial nomination that added 600 points and I received my ITA the following month.”

Do I need a lawyer for Express Entry? +
It’s not legally required, but the CRS scoring, NOC classification, and document requirements are unforgiving. A single error can drop you below the draw cutoff or trigger a refusal. An attorney maximizes your score and protects against costly mistakes.
What’s the difference between Express Entry and PNP? +
Express Entry is a federal system. A Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is run by an individual province and can add 600 points to your CRS score, effectively guaranteeing an ITA. We assess whether a PNP pathway suits your profile.
How long does family sponsorship take? +
Spousal sponsorship typically takes 12 months; parent and grandparent sponsorship can take longer due to intake caps. Processing time depends on whether the application is inland or outland and on document completeness.
My visa was refused. What are my options? +
Depending on the refusal grounds, options include reapplication with corrected documentation, an appeal to the IRB, or a Federal Court judicial review. Refusal cases are time-sensitive — contact us immediately, as judicial review deadlines are strict.
What is an LMIA and when does an employer need one? +
A Labour Market Impact Assessment is a document an employer obtains from ESDC to demonstrate that no Canadian is available to fill a role. It’s required for most employer-specific work permits, with some CUSMA and intra-company exemptions.
