Why It Matters

Immigration decisions shape lives. The firm you choose shapes the outcome.

Whether you are building a business, investing, advancing your career, studying abroad, hiring talent, or reuniting with family, immigration law is no longer a simple process. The rules are getting increasingly complex. The consequences are real. One mistake, omission, poorly framed explanation, insufficient evidence, or weak legal argument can trigger delays, refusals, findings of misrepresentation, or consequences that are difficult and sometimes impossible to undo.

By the time a decision is made, the damage may already be done.

What Sets Us Apart

At Leiter Rahme, your file is not treated as paperwork. It is treated as a legal strategy.

Every case is guided by licensed lawyers with deep experience in Canadian and U.S. immigration law. We identify risks before they become problems, anticipate how officers may interpret the evidence, and prepare the file strategically from the beginning.

Many clients first approach immigration as paperwork. Then they discover the real challenge is legal strategy.

Immigration is not just paperwork. A strong application requires knowing how the law applies to your situation, what risks an officer may see, and how to present the evidence strategically, before it becomes too late.

Most cases require lawyers trained to assess risk, interpret the law, frame evidence, and build strategy before problems arise.

With 35 years of experience and lawyers admitted in both Canada and the United States, Leiter Rahme brings the legal precision, strategy, and commitment required when the outcome truly matters.

“I had a really nice consultation with Antoine regarding spousal sponsorship for my husband. Before meeting him, I was overwhelmed about the process, but he broke everything down, answered all my questions (even though they were all over the place), and was really reassuring. I highly recommend if you need help with immigration!”

Can I book a consultation directly on your website? +
Yes. You can book a paid legal consultation directly through our website and select a date and time that is convenient for you.
What is the difference between the free 15-minute call and a consultation? +

A legal consultation is the best option if you want your situation to be reviewed in detail, receive legal advice, understand your options, and discuss strategy with a lawyer. Consultations are scheduled at a confirmed date and time.

The free 15-minute call is a brief introductory call intended to help us understand the general nature of your situation and determine whether our firm may be able to assist you. It is not a legal consultation and does not include detailed legal advice or a full assessment of your case.

Free calls are not scheduled through our consultation calendar. You may request a free call, and a member of our team will contact you when availability permits.

For clients seeking legal advice or a detailed review of their situation, we recommend booking a consultation directly.

Do I need an appointment for the free 15-minute call? +
No. There is no need to schedule an appointment for the free 15-minute introductory call. Simply request a call, and a member of our team will get back to you when available. If you prefer a confirmed date and time to discuss your situation with a lawyer, you can book a consultation directly through our website.
Can you send your information to me by text message? +
Yes. Upon request, our office can send you information by text message, including a link to book a consultation and other information related to your appointment.
How much do you charge? +
Legal fees depend on the type and complexity of the matter. During your consultation, we can assess your situation and determine the scope of the legal work required. We can then provide you with the applicable fee or an estimate, depending on the nature of the mandate.
Can you give me a quote before I retain your firm? +
Yes. Once we have sufficient information to understand the work required, we can provide you with a quote or fee estimate. In many cases, a consultation is necessary before we can accurately determine the scope of the mandate and the appropriate legal fees.
Is the consultation fee applied toward my legal fees if I hire the firm? +
Yes. If you retain our firm following the consultation, the consultation fee will be credited toward your legal fees.
Do you offer payment plans? +
Yes. For many mandates, our lump-sum legal fees can be paid in several instalments. The payment structure depends on the nature, complexity and duration of the mandate and will be discussed with you before you retain the firm.
When do I have to pay the legal fees? +
Payment terms are explained before you retain the firm and are confirmed in your written retainer agreement. The timing of payments depends on the nature and scope of the mandate.
I have questions about both Canadian and U.S. immigration. Do I need two consultations? +
Not necessarily. Where appropriate, we can arrange your consultation with a lawyer who is licensed to practise in both Canada and the United States, allowing your Canadian and U.S. immigration questions to be addressed during the same consultation.
My immigration application was refused or denied. Can you help? +
Yes. We regularly assess Canadian and U.S. immigration refusals and can advise you on the available options. Depending on the circumstances, we may assist with a new application, a legal response or explanatory submission, reconsideration, review, appeal, waiver or other appropriate remedy.
I received a letter or request from immigration authorities. Can you help me respond? +
Yes. We can review correspondence from Canadian or U.S. immigration authorities and, where appropriate, prepare a legal response, explanatory letter or supporting submission on your behalf.
Can you assist me if I have a criminal record? +
Yes. A criminal record does not necessarily prevent you from immigrating to or entering Canada or the United States. We can assess the immigration consequences of your record and determine whether rehabilitation, a waiver or another remedy may be available.
My application has been pending for a long time. Can you tell me its status? +
If you are an existing client, please contact our office and we can review the information available on your file. If you filed the application yourself or through another representative, we can also review your matter and advise you regarding the delay, available status information and any possible next steps.
My relative has been detained or arrested at an airport or border. Can you assist? +
We may be able to assist. Immigration detention and border matters can be extremely time-sensitive. Contact our office as soon as possible and provide the person’s full name, citizenship, location, immigration status and any information provided by the authorities. We will promptly determine whether the matter falls within our practice and how we may be able to assist.
Can you accompany me to my immigration or visa interview? +
In many cases, immigration or consular authorities do not permit counsel to participate directly in the interview itself. However, we will definitely prepare you for your interview by reviewing your documentation, identifying potential issues, discussing likely questions and preparing you on how best to approach the interview.
Can you review an application that I prepared myself? +
Yes. We offer document-review services for clients who have prepared their own immigration forms and supporting documentation. The amount of time required for an adequate review depends on the complexity and volume of the application. We generally recommend starting with a consultation, after which the lawyer can determine how much additional time will be required for a complete review.
Do you notarize documents? +
No. Our firm does not provide document notarization services. If notarization is required, we can advise you that it is needed so that you can arrange it with an appropriate notary or commissioner.
Can you help me find a job in Canada or the United States? +
No. We provide immigration legal services and do not provide employment placement, recruitment or job-search services. We can, however, advise you on the immigration requirements once you have an employment opportunity.
Can you represent me in immigration court? +
Our lawyers are licensed to practice law in Canada and the United States and may represent clients before immigration authorities, tribunals and courts subject to the applicable jurisdiction and admission requirements. Whether we can represent you in a particular proceeding also depends on the nature of the matter and our expertise in that area. We recommend speaking with one of our lawyers so that we can assess the case and confirm whether we can assist.
Do you handle refugee or asylum claims? +
No. Our firm does not currently accept refugee or asylum matters.
Do you provide pro bono legal services? +
No. We do not currently accept pro bono immigration mandates.
How can I attend my consultation? +
Consultations are available by Zoom, Microsoft Teams, telephone or in person, depending on your preference.
